In the early 2000′s customization was the big thing. A lot of people took it upon themselves to recreate, remix, deconstruct already existing products. Some people even became famous for their “Remixes” like Dr. Romanelli, Sabotage and guys like Methamphibian. These guys became so popular that companies started hiring these guys for legit collaborations. Maybe that was the slow death of DIY’s (do it yourself) or maybe it was the evolution. Companies started smelling the DIY trend and started offering programs to consumers like Nike ID, The Bespoke program and Converse customization just to capitalize on the growing need for ones own unique piece. I believe Vans was one of the early adopters of the DIY & consumer experience.
I don’t think much people are paying much attention to the guy on the block painting sneakers these days, I feel that type of DIY is pretty much finish. The evolution has become company sanctioned DIY’s projects like what happened at OTH a couple weeks ago. Nike invited me down to the shop to customize my own AW77 Hoody which you can see above. I wanted to do a bit more but time was not on my side, I was only able to get a few patches on but I still love it. It really feels like mines!

On August 17th in Las Vegas I was guest on an expert panel about social media. The goal was to educate brands and retailers on the ins and outs of Social Media. This convention was held during the The Project Las Vegas Trade Show.
The seminar was put together by HauteLook and Tweethouse in collaboration with Project.
The panel was amazing! I want to give a special thank you to the rest of the amazing people I shared the stage with.

The Tweet house is a celebration of the Real-Time Web and Twitter’s pervasive role within it. It brings together those who are creating and evangelizing the technologies that are defining the future.
As a confluence of hundreds of key players in the entertainment and tech industries, the Tweet house showcases collaboration, creativity, and technology in an informal and festive environment.
From the Consumer Electronics Show to the Sundance Film Festival, the Tweet House is where Silicon Valley and Hollywood converge.

The Project Show in collaboration with HauteLook and Tweethouse invited me down to be a panelist at this year Tweethouse Social Media Event at The Mandalay Bay convention centre. I graciously accepted and was on a the next plane smoking to Las Vegas. I was honored to be part of such a dynamic team of social media experts. This was the scene as I walked into the room for prepping…
I think I should have been nervous but for some reason I was pretty calm. A lot of my people and friends came out to support and hear my thoughts on the subject.
Hopefully I will have some video and discussion to show you guys later.
Thanks to the the team and a special shout out to Steve Broback

The Project Show Las Vegas invited me down as a guest of the show and to partake in a few conferences and tweet-ups (more about that later) This morning we had a 7:00 am call time for a Breakfast Series with some of the world best retailers.
I had the opportunity to sit with the new president of the Project Trade Show, Andrew Pollard, The Global Vice President of Levis XX (double x) Maurizio Donadi and Sam the founder of Project and owner of Atrium in New York city.

Maurizio was an invited guest and spoke about Levi’s and the future of the company. We shared some thoughts and ideas at the table and I think he found some of my commentary useful. (inside joke) His speech was amazing and insightful! The goal of Levi’s XX (double x) is not to be obsessed with growth, rather create products that consumers will want to keep and wear forever. I really agreed with his philosophy!

Maurizio and Sam Ben-avraham

I was most intrigue and fascinated with my conversation with the new President of The Project show, Andrew Pollard, who shares similar thoughts on brand experience and retail. He is definitely a cultural agitator and a cultural participant. it is always amazing to meet like minded people in great positions of power.
Our friends from Highsnobiety and Selectism were also in attendance, they were sitting with Michael Williams from A Continuous Lean, who will be tomorrows guest speaker at the breakfast series.

After my power breakfast with the TITANS of Fashion I went to get my media badge and then the day started….
Stay tuned for more live updates.
A big thank you and shout out to Mary, Mary, Stephon and Nancy!

The guys over at Oakley invited me out again this year to attend the Osheaga festival. Hanging with the Oakley team sure makes you privy to some amazing perks, like hiding out from the blazing sun in the Oakley trailer, eating, drinking and watching the show from the roof of the trailer. We got treated like VIP’s for 2 full days and got to meet the artist who came for a complimentary pair of Oakley shades. Snoop Dogg was one of the main headliners and the festival was filled with amazing acts. I got to catch up with all the homies and document the experience from my point of view. (coming soon)
Big Thanks to Mark, Ingrid, Vince, Maura, Justin, Alex and the rest of my peoples.
What do you know about Polarized Oakley Frogskins? OH! I will profile those soon.

I had to lift these amazing photos from the homie Vince.

P.Reign
Last night Drake & Friends performed at Metropolis in Montreal. The show had been sold out for months and everyone was scrambling to get tickets for this anticipated show.
The opening act for Drake was his homie P.Reing from Toronto. I’ve been to a lot of shows in my life and I’ve never seen an virtually unknown opening act get so much love. I was really impressed with P.Reign’s stage presence and performance and how he engaged the crowd. He dropped a little unknown fact about himself that he was born in Montreal in the notorious Little Burgundy neighborhood then he shouted out all the other “hoods” and the crowd when nuts.
Opening acts usually come off like amateurs and have really bad sounding equipments or mics. P.Reing handled this like a pro and made it feel like he had been doing this for a very long time or has been paying attention to the professionals. I’m feeling his song “In my Hood” and the crowd was also very receptive. He performed what think is a new song about White Leather and new rims and I have to say it was also dope!
Props to P.Reign you now have my attention.

Drake killed Montreal! The crowd went crazy for every song and sang along for every song. I was so surprise to see lips moving during his “Aston Martin Music” verse over a “Find Your Love” instrumental. His stage performance his getting so much better and he is a lot more captivating to the crowd. My lady friend was anxious to see if this would be a better performance than his BET appearance, and guess what? He really killed it. Drake really professed his love for Montreal and the crowd reciprocated.
Drake even sang a few songs and you can really tell that his vocal coach has been working him really hard. The crowd seemed really impressed with his singing, for a few minutes you would have believed you were at a bonafied R&B show. The show had 1 or 2 hiccups with timing being off and whatnot but I left the venue feeling really proud of Drake! You can tell he wants this thing forever.
It was cool to see 40 and Cj behind the soundboard man making sure everything looked right, sounded right and was on point. These guys want to be the best in the game and it shows.
Drake is in town for a few days so don’t be surprised if you see him around the city!
