    The RX 450h Is Lexus’ Definition Of Efficient Luxury

    It could be said within the realm of luxury automakers, Lexus can be considered a sleeping dragon. This is an underlying performance and design that carries an air of mystery for the brand. Which is a good thing. If there’s one thing we can say with our first experience with their 2016 RX 450h is that the automotive brand is focused. From the exterior to the interior, there is a level of consistency all throughout.

    The exterior of the RX 450h is extremely sharp and we mean that in a good way. The swooping grille at front gives the impression of movement like the car is always moving forward. The LED headlamps cut like knives and it continues in the rear. Stylistically, it has all the accents one would look for in a sports oriented SUV.

    The interior of the RX 450h is dipped in premium materials. It’s easy to get into driving position and the steering wheel is comfortable to hold on to. Most of the time, when automotive brands utilize wood in their interiors, it can either be a hit or a miss. However, in the Lexus they have chosen a dark wood that is mahogany-like and it blends inconspicuously with the aluminum and leather. The screen that displays the infotainment system is a fantastic size and its aesthetically pleasing. Although, the cursor used to navigate the system is difficult to use and it’s sensitive to the touch. The finer details include standard heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, LED headlamps and brake lamps, Drive Mode Select, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

    It is equipped with a 3.5L V6 Hybrid engine that produces 308-horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque. We appreciate how effective the hybrid engine works with the rest of the engine. From a stop, the electric motor takes the 450h to cruising speed quicker than most. Moreover, once the gas engine takes over, it’s not intrusive and there is no loss of power as you continue to put pressure on the pedal. In terms of maneuverability, the Lexus feels light despite its size and when you put it into sports mode, it tightens up the suspension and the wheel is more weighted. This is thanks to the Active Torque All-Wheel Drive, which helps to distribute the weight and power of the 450h as you navigate it through bends and sudden movements.
