While I was out in NYC, I got the chance to visit Mister Cartoon’s suite at the Marcel Gramercy hotel. The hotel launched an innovative art series called M.O.A.R (Marcel Original Art on Rotation). They put Mister Cartoon in a suite for 10 days where he could work and put tattoos on the guest of the hotel. He usually has a waiting list longer than Fairfax, but if you were a guest at the hotel you had a chance to skip the waiting list.
What was dope is that the room was set up like a tattoo shop. Pretty cool! I think it is such a great initiative and clever idea. For more info visit here
“Hotel Marcel, the boutique New York establishment, has recently announced that the outside wall of their hotel will be used to showcase edgy artwork from young, emerging and alternative artists. This innovative program will feature unconventional artwork in an enormous 40 x 20ft installation in a prominent gold frame on the wall of the building. The art series, titled Marcel Original Art on Rotation (M.O.A.R.) will rotate artists on a three month basis and the theme of the display will change annually; the initial year will present work created under the title ‘Concrete Jungle’ and it is hoped that the original pieces will reflect the urban diversity of New York.”
“The first installation in the M.O.A.R series will be unveiled in February 2010, and to add a further dimension to this exceptional collaboration, Mister Cartoon will become the first tattoo artist in residence at the hotel. As an exclusive offer, guests staying during his residence will be able to skip his year long waiting list and schedule appointments with Mister Cartoon in his temporary Ink Suite in the hotel.”
The creative process of each artist as well as the chance to view current installations and follow news about future featured artists will all be documented in a new micro blog which will launch on 16th November at www.themarcelatgramercy.com/MOAR.
