Joe La Puma and myself ending up being stranded again in Atlanta, by stranded I mean we could not get a cab to bring us to point A to B. We bumped into 2 lovely girls who were kind enough to bring us to our next destination. I guess what they say about southern hospitality is really the truth. There are a few other things that they say about Atlanta and it is how real it is. The music has always been a depiction of what goes on there, but I feel like I wanted to experience it first hand. I’m sure Joe felt the same way, because he asked these ladies to take us to the TRAP.
They quickly responded: We in the TRAP!
What is crazy is that my brother from another mother Kwasi is always trying to go to the hood in other cities to see what it is like. There is something exciting or really real about being in the place where the real get down, I’ve always been fascinated by that as well. I’m not saying I want to be in harms way but somethings always draws me to these areas of desperation, at least for a peek.
Everyone one kept telling us that the “bums” or homeless people in the A are kind of scary and dangerous, I’m not sure how true that is, but we were in the trap and this is what we saw as we drove off, a homeless person in a “I LOVE COKE” t-shirt.
Trough out the day we heard first hand stories of AK47’s being drawn on some rappers (not mentioning any names) during this weekend in Atlanta and everywhere we went there were cops guarding the venue or patrolling the place. I guess the trap stories from Jeezy, TI, Gucci, PILL, Shawty LO and all the other artist who have emerged from THE TRAP are true.
Based on rap definition, ATL is as real as it gets.
