A few days ago, a messenger in every sense of the word showed up at my office with a song and a message inviting me to a “speakeasy” event at a secret location in Montreal, hosted by Bombay Sapphire. I was given a special invitation to access this soiree of fun and drinks.
I was told to look for the man in a bow tie and he escorted me up to the top floor of the establishment where I was greeted by a female in 1920s garb. What a great little experience…
Bombay Sapphire wanted to recreate prohibition-era cocktails for modern day gentlemen. Bombay Sapphire and culinary expert Chef Eric Gonzalez re-imagined prohibition-era cocktails to create the exclusive Sapphire Speakeasy.
The gracious host of the evening was Merlin Griffith, Bombay Sapphire’s Global Brand Ambassador. He showed us how to recreate new recipes to create cocktails. The event was held upstairs of the Auberge Saint- Gabriel where Chef Gonzalez is a resident.
I discovered that pairing the right foods with the right drinks really enhances the taste of your food. I think we often take our taste-buds for granted.
Now that I know how to make some special drinks I think I’m going to have a busy summer…
A special thanks Bombay Sapphire
A speakeasy, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, is an establishment that illegally sells alcoholic beverages. Such establishments came into prominence in the United States during the period known as Prohibition (1920–1933, longer in some states). During this time, the sale, manufacture, and transportation (bootlegging) of alcoholic beverages was illegal throughout the United States.
