  • My Life: How To dress Like a “Rude Bwoy” a MT Guide

I stepped out the house today to hit up the barbershop and I decided to drive trough my old neighborhood to take some street style shots. This street style shot is an ode to the “Bad Man” and the “Rude Bwoy’s” who used to run my neighborhood back in the day.

They used to step out in loafers, kangols and chains, they had names like General, Russian and OX they were from the islands and they ran the city if you know what I mean. Some of these guys were my friends fathers and they always had the dopest style and swagger.

How To Dress Like a Rude Bwoy

    1. Hats

You always need a fresh hat or something on your head and I am not talking about a fitted or a trucker hat. Hat’s give personality and always makes or breaks a look. The rude bwoy’s used to rock Kangols of all types of styles and colors.

MT Look: Vintage Fur Kangol Hat

I’ve had this hat for years and I pull it out on special occasions. Today was fitting…

    2. Sweaters

For some reason whenever fall came around the old timers always had on grandfather sweaters or knits. (think Coogie) I think they wore sweaters all the time because they were from the islands and they wanted to stay warm.

MT Look: Polo by Ralph Lauren cashmere and cotton knit

I love this sweater I spoke about it yesterday…check out the suede elbow patches.

    3. Chains

If they did not have on gold chains they had on African Medallions or beads. Wearing chains was  about status, the bigger and the more valuable the better. The African Medallions signified a level of consciousness and paying homage to Africa the Motherland, Rastafarian’s and Selassie I.

MT Look: Good Wood Maple Jesus Piece

The homies over at Good Wood sent me every single colour of this famous Jesus piece, some of the colors never came out but I always go back to the maple or the black.

    4. Light Denim

I don’t believe denim washes were in style back then or maybe they did not exist. If they weren’t wearing dress pants they were wearing light denim.

    MT Look: Hudson Jeans (Straight)

I really like Hudson jeans, they have a good fit and I’m feeling light washes these days.

    4. Loafers

Footwear was extremely important part of the wardrobe, if you were a rude bwoy your shoes were always clean and mean, It was about Clarks Dessert Boots, Travel Fox sneakers and Bally loafers.

MT Look: Ronnie Fieg x Street Etiquette Sebago Nexus Project Tassel Loafers.

These are so crazy! The homies at SE really put out some solid shoes on this collaboration. They are super comfy and look amazing.

    Enjoy!
