    40.7128° N, 74.0060° W

"This vibrancy of McGinness' "Black Holes" falls in line with his artwork with Hennessy. It also recalls the brightness of the 80s. To which we asked McGinness if he is attempting to bring us back to happier times"

For the last five years Hennessy has tapped into the creativity of artists to design artwork for their Very Special range of cognac. Previous collaborators have been KAWS, Futura, Os Gemeos, Shepard Fairey, and now, Ryan McGinness. The synergy between the artist and the brand comes as no surprise as both have their own distinctive values and originality, but parallel in passion and in taste.

The official launch of the bottle was celebrated at an exclusive party, where former artists like Futura, was in attendance. Moreover, a surprise musical performance was given by 2Chainz. His performance served as a nod to Hip-Hop’s longstanding appreciation of Hennessy VS. In terms of libations, our favourite out of the cocktails had to be in the “Infinity” concocted by Ryan McGinness himself. Look for the recipe below.

For his work for Hennessy, the artist chose to brighten up his artwork instead of the previously dark collaborations. Further, he channeled his inspiration from his celebrated “Black Holes” series, which was completed in 2010. It takes elements from skateboard culture, poster design, and graffiti, and then fuses its energy and spirit. The results are captivating and the viewer is drawn inwards toward to the “event horizon”, the center where everything disappears into the black hole.

This vibrancy of McGinness’ “Black Holes” falls in line with his artwork with Hennessy. It also recalls the brightness of the 80s. To which we asked McGinness if he is attempting to bring us back to happier times, but his answer was that he was simply trying to imbue a mood of celebration and wealth, which he emphasized by using the fleur-de-lys and the luxuries synonymous with French symbol.

McGinness continued by stating believes that it is important for an artist to be critical and observant of the world around him. In the same vein, McGinness’ work, more often than not, is subtly a social commentary. We asked him if he agrees with our observation and his response was a strong yes.

We were also interested in knowing how the artist enjoys his Hennessy VS, and with a sly smile, he answered, “I like it neat.”
