There is no denying that the word ‘classic’ comes to mind, when we think about Converse. Whether it comes in the form of the Chuck Taylor or the Auckland Racer, there’s a pair that everyone has a story about. Within the last year, Converse has taken a look back at their catalogue and has injected new life into it. It first began with the Chuck Taylor II All Star, and later with the Converse Modern and Auckland sneaker. These updated sneakers have opened a new chapter for the next generation to write in.

This season, the footwear brand has re-introduced another timeless silhouette, the Pro Leather 1976. Forty years ago, the sneaker made its first appearance on the basketball court, and during this time the sport was establishing itself as a game of excitement, flair and extreme competition. Needless to say, the game was changing and the shoe needed to change with it. Its high-top silhouette provided better ankle support and the wider stance provided more comfort. These features made the sneaker revolutionary for its time.

Today, we will see the Pro Leather ’76 revamped, a sneaker that is wrapped in a smooth monochromatic leather upper and designed with a slimmer profile. On the inside, there’s Nike Lunarlon sockliner that distributes the force that is produced whether we are walking or running.

On our annual trip to Tokyo, we packed Converse’s Pro Leather ’76 into our luggage. As efficient as Tokyo’s subway systems are, we always find ourselves walking through the city. There are little nooks and crannies, alleys and side streets that hide unique shops, restaurants, and bars that you’ll only find in Japan. Style is also an important element in Tokyo. As we strolled through Harajuku district, we would take cues from the well-dressed locals back home with us. But, in our Converse Pro-Leather sneakers, it seemed like they were taking notes from us.

The Converse Pro Leather ‘76 is available online, in high top and ox, at Converse and Foot Locker Stores in Canada.
