  • Nimble, Fast, & Luxurious: The 2015 BMW 228i xDrive

"The sharp exterior also makes a statement with its low and assertive stance that’s accented with BMW’s iconic kidney grille"

The 2015 BMW 228i xDrive combines all the great things the German luxury carmakers does so well, and despite its small size, it serves as a strong introduction to the BMW brand. The first thing we’d have to mention is the interior, the texture of the brushed aluminum trim and the coral red Dakota leather are unforgettable. Every time we got into the car we had to take a good look around the cabin before pushing the ignition. Moreover, the steering wheel is unfussy in its design and plays to the 228i’s athletic aspirations, while the well placed paddle shifters gives the driver access to the 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission.

What we appreciate about the 228i is the fuel saving driving modes, ECO PRO and COMFORT. The automatic stop/start feature is activated when you put your foot on the brake and it aims to save gas while idling at a stop or in traffic. Furthermore, when you lift your foot off to accelerate, the car comes back to life without any lag.

It wouldn’t be a BMW if it didn’t have the performance and with that being said, the full experience can be felt in the 228i’s SPORT and SPORT+ settings. That is where the 2.0L TwinPower Turbo inline 4-cylinder, 16-valve 240-hp engine generates an aggressively rewarding growl. The 50/50 balance of the car, coupled with the xDrive AWD system and the well-weighted steering delivers a satisfying and responsive drive all-around.

The sharp exterior also makes a statement with its low and assertive stance that’s accented with BMW’s iconic kidney grille. The overall size of the 228i allows for a more focused designed with the curves and edges flowing from end to end. Its further complemented with 17-inch Y-Spoke Alloy wheels that reveals large brake discs and M branded calipers.

In terms of the connected driving experience, BMW offers “ConnectedDrive” an expansive, multi-service platform for your messages, weather, news, internet and a concierge that provides 24/7 information to guide you during your drive.
