At 25 years old, Grace Wales Bonner recently took home the 2016 LVMH Young Designer award for her impressive spring 2017 collection. The Prize? 300,000 Euros and a year long mentorship at the Foundation Louis Vitton in Paris. She is also a Central Saint Martins graduate in design and marketing. The pieces from her line, Wales Bonner, are heavily influenced by African and European representations and she looks to explore the relationship between the two. She is also commenting on gender and her clothing challenges our preexisting perceptions on masculine and feminine, along with an emphasis on black sexuality.
One of our favourite pieces from the label’s current offerings is this long sleeve semi-sheer and linen-blend shirt in white. The large mandarin-esque collar and the self-tie straps at the waist is the perfect example of contemporary in menswear. The shirt is finished off with a front button closure front and patch pocket at chest.
