Todd Snyder Fall 2015 Show @ToddSnyderNY #NYFW
For Fall 2015, Todd Snyder was inspired by Le Corbusier and French painter Amédée Ozenfant, who are founders of Purism, an art movement that strips away the decorative aspects of Cubism for for an art that relied on purity, logic, and mathematical order. In fact, the architect went so far as to say, “A house is a machine for living in.”
In this case, the designer substitutes menswear for Corbusier’s house — to craft a collection tailored for the man of the digital age.
Inspired by the colour palate and the strict silhouette of military uniforms, the collection marks a new chapter in Snyder’s continuing study in tonal dressing — rich in olive, brown, navy, oxblood, and grey — with a decidedly relatable yet functional backbone of strong black undertones.
The Todd Snyder raison d’être has always been a collection of modern staples, and the essential machine for today’s gentleman is outwardly minimal outerwear, thoughtfully engineered.
In these pieces, Snyder’s foundation of architecture and tailoring shine via systematic, graphic-less offerings that include grey heather parkas and top coats featuring breathable, water-repellant membranes and thermal stitching; a minimal cement grey aviator jacket is rendered in waxed nubuck; and a simple mechanic’s jumpsuit shirt goes low luxe in wool gabardine.
