It’s no secret that the Gap was one of the most beloved brands of the nineties. Their collections were popular for their simplicity and they quickly became essentials in many wardrobes. Up to this day, the brand is still appreciated for the same qualities.
It doesn’t take a keen eye to know that fashion is cyclical, and that the styles that we wore in our youth usually come back around. One of the best example of this is the nineties inspired trend that has been growing in the last few months.
The Gap has joined in on the fun by releasing the “Archive Re-issue” collection, which consists of some their most iconic styles from the era. You’ll find pieces like the pocket tee shirt, which had famously featured supermodel, Naomi Campbell, back in 1992. A number of oversized items are included such as the big Oxford shirt, denim shirt, and crewneck sweater. There are also more contemporary pieces that have nineties flair like the slim-fitting khakis that are pleated but cropped at the ankle.
We’ve styled a few of our favourite pieces from the collection, and we looked to popular sitcoms like Martin, Fresh Prince, and Seinfeld for inspiration. Marcus is wearing the re-issue big Oxford shirt, the re-issue pleated fit khakis, and the re-issue Harrington leather jacket. If you grew up in the nineties, you probably had a few pieces from the Gap in your closet. Now’s your chance to get your hands on them again!
You can also watch the visuals that Gap has put together to celebrate the release of the collection. The video stars children of the icons featured in the original ads, alongside the aforementioned, Naomi Campbell.
