Chino pants, like many essential pieces, gained popularity due to its highly durable qualities and they are just as essential as having jeans in your wardrobe. They are made from cotton and exhibit hardwearing capabilities as denim, as they are sewn in a twill weave. In fact, they can be regarded as an alternative to wearing jeans, as they tend to feel lighter and come in a variety colours. Although, chinos has never achieved any kind of notoriety like denim and its signifier of a rebellious attitude. The material was heavily used for military uniforms and it was expressed in tones like olive, beige, navy, and of course, different variations of camouflage. It has also been adopted by other working class occupations and it quickly became a casual off-duty piece.
You probably already have a pair in your wardrobe and it’s most likely an older pair that fits quite wide. If you haven’t reached out for them all summer, you can start considering them as a go-to transitional pant. Plus, if they are on the wide side, you’ll be glad to know that they are in style this season! Just make sure when you put them on you roll up the bottoms a few times so that they rest just above your ankle or higher. In terms of footwear, you can pair them with high-top or low-top sneakers like Converse or Vans, comfortable slip-ons or loafers. If it’s a cool day, throw on a denim, bomber, or varsity jacket, and if it’s hot, a graphic t-shirt or a breezy linen shirt will help to keep you cool.
