  • Samsung Galaxy A7 @SamsungMobile

SM-A700F_SS__001_Front_Black SM-A700F_SS__002_Back_Black SM-A700F_SS__003_R-Perspective_BlackSamsung has finally announced the third device in its new A series of smartphones, the Galaxy A7. How does it stack up against their flagship the Galaxy S5, lets take a look.

The A7 features a 5.5-inch, Super AMOLED screen at 720p resolution, while the S5 is equipped with a 1080p, 5.1-inch screen. While it is not as sharp as the S5, Samsung has perfected the use of the AMOLED screen technology, offering up vibrant colours, deep blacks, while eliminating yellowish-whites and off colours. Therefore, we are not completely disappointed in the A7’s resolution.

Measuring in at 6.3mm thick, the A7 is slightly thinner than the 8.1mm S5. It also feels more premium thank to the metal rim that encases the A7, opposed to the plastic faux-metal on the S5. The advantage that the S5 holds is that it has a IP67 certification, which means it has a high degree of dust and water resistance. With that being said, we wouldn’t recommend taking the A7 anywhere super dirty.

In terms of processing speed, the A7 clocks in a little slower than the s5, with a Quad-core 1.8GHz Snapdragon 615 CPU, 64-bit, 2GB RAM. Whereas the S5 is powered by a Quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU, 32-bit, 2GB RAM. Nonetheless, both devices perform admirably well.

The A7 houses a non-removable 2600mAh battery, which means it isn’t as long lasting as the S5’s 2800mAh. Not to mention that you can also carry a spare battery for the S5. Despite this, the A7s processor allows for a lower power output and the lower resolution eats a lot less battery.

Memory-wise, the A7 is only accompanied with 16GB of memory, while the S5 is available in 16,32, and 64GB. Although, both are capable of memory expansion thanks to a MicroSD slot.

Finally, a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera is installed on the A7, opposed to the 16MP and 2MP camera on the S5.

Overall, the A7 is a mid-range smartphone that isn’t as powerful as the S5 but holds itself well on its own. We particularly appreciate its slimmer design and metal rim, it’s definitely a more stylish device than S5.

We are excited get hands on with the A7!
