Press: DT89 x Marcus Troy
The folks over at DT89 hit me up for an interview a couple weeks ago and it went a little something like this:
“Blogging ain’t easy but somebody’s got to do it.” – words of Mr. Troy. From visiting great places around the globe, eating gourmet food, spending nights in luxurious hotels in NYC, or just kickin’ it with some Monopoly and Carlberg…Marcus Troy break’s down everything from fashion to culture to ‘females matching his fly’ on his self-titled blog.
89: How long have you been down with the blogging game? What made you want to start?
MT: I started blogging about five years ago. I started out of share passion. I always liked sharing with people or putting people on to new things, so blogging was a natural transition.
89: Your blog mainly incorporates the fashion world, have you always beenso affiliated with fashion and it’s trends?
MT: I started off my career working in retail fashion, so I guess I’’ve always been as you say affiliated with it. I try and pay attentions to what is going on in the world of fashion and trends. It is what keeps me in the loop and what keeps me valuable to some.
89: What brands are included in your favourite outfit?
MT: I always struggle with these type of questions, because I don’t like to stick to one brand. I really like things that are interesting, well designed, functional or just simply dope. My taste changing often as things progress but I would always love brands that have heritage. Some of my favorite brands are Ralph Lauren, Visvim, NSW, Y3 to name a few.

89: If you were to get a shoe deal, which shoe company would it be with and why?
MT: It would have to be a company that understands my vision and has the resources for good R&D so we can do something that hasn’t really been done before. I would love to incorporate fashion with a strong element of function. I’m assuming this shoe deal would be for multiple collections and not just a one time thing. I would need to spend some time in mountains of Tunisia for inspiration.
89: Can you elaborate on fashion in Montreal/Canada?
MT: Montreal has European sensibilities but it also has a progressive street culture. People are pretty much up on things that are happening in the street culture. I just feel sometimes it takes a little longer to translate because most of the communication about fashion, products and new brands happens in English and the majority of the population in Montreal is French. When you travel throughout Canada, that’s when things start to change a bit. The mega cities like Toronto and Vancouver would are very similar to the rest of the mega cities in the world but when you get into smaller towns sometimes they are a couple of seasons behind on what is going on, but you can always find inspiration there.
89: Where in the world is fashion on a another level?
MT: I haven’t been all around the world yet but some places that are very progressive is Japan and Korea.
89: What is your most current advice on today’s trend that you can give our readers?
MT: Don’t worry about being trendy! Not everything that is a trend is a good thing. Being comfortable in what you are wearing is a lot more trendy that anything else.
89: Very well said.
89: Is there any place in the world you havn’t been yet but would like to go?
MT: I would love to visit Africa! I would love to get in tuned with the homeland and experience its culture.
89: Well we hope you can get to visit Africa soon. Thanks for your time Marcus, any last words?
MT:Thanks for speaking with me. Shout out to all my readers from over the world I truly do this for you guys.
