News: Timex x Earth Hour Pledge #TIMETOGLO @timex
My days, like everyone else’s, are usually spent in front of a screen. Sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back from the digital world and smell the flowers (literally). It’s crazy how much I miss when my eyes are glued to my smartphone. With that being said, my participation with Timex for this year’s Earth Hour couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m really looking forward to disconnecting and reconnecting with better appreciation for sustainability.
Earth Hour is a non-profit organization managed by the WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) and obtains its support through open source crowd funding. The inaugural Earth Hour was held 8 years ago in Sydney, Australia and 2,100 businesses and 2.2 million people participated. Every year after, the project has grown in size and has now expanded into a global campaign for sustainability. Last year, approximately 162 countries, 7,000 cities, and hundreds of millions people shut off their power for an hour in solidarity for the Earth’s preservation.
Earth Hour is not only a time where we shut off our lights for 60 minutes. It is also a chance to raise awareness about preserving our planet. The money that is raised from the pledges will go towards WWF sustainability projects, such as protecting endangered species, the Amazon forest, the Great Barrier Reef and more.
For this year’s Earth Hour, Timex is joining the global movement with Timex INDIGLO. They are going to donate $1 dollar for every shared pledge up to $50,000! Pretty incredible isn’t it? For this year’s Earth Hour, Timex created a website where you can turn your image into a Timex INDIGLO particle pledge and state what you will do during that hour. All you have to do is upload a picture of yourself (yes, that’s all it takes) and you will join the millions of others who are giving to this cause.
If you were curious of what I’ll be doing for Earth Hour, I will be resting my eyes from the many screens and taking the time to meditate. I look forward to peace of mind and the ability to reflect on things that generally may pass me by. How will you spend your Earth Hour?
I encourage you all to go beyond the one-hour and try to be mindful of your personal impact on the world. Want to join me in this global movement? Visit the website here: Timex Earth Hour.
