STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Swedish budget fashion giant Hennes & Mauritz said on Wednesday luxury shoe maker Jimmy Choo Ltd would become the latest in its string of high-profile guest designers.
The world’s third biggest retailer by sales said the collection by Jimmy Choo Ltd, also known for its bags, would be available from November 14 in around 200 stores across the world.
“This autumn, British accessory brand Jimmy Choo will bring its international glamour and covetable shoes and bags to selected H&M stores,” H&M said in a statement. “It is the first time that H&M is collaborating with an accessories brand.”
Malaysia-born Jimmy Choo, who founded the firm together with current Chief Executive Tamara Mellon, became known to many through cosmopolitan U.S. television series Sex and the City that started running in 1998, in which Jimmy Choo’s stilettos were among lead character Carrie’s favorites.
Jimmy Choo left the company in 2001, a H&M spokeswoman said, and sold his share of the business.
U.S. first lady Michelle Obama wore shoes by Jimmy Choo Ltd on her husband’s Inauguration Day.
H&M said the guest line would also include women’s clothing and a men’s collection of shoes, bags and accessories.
Other fashion greats that have collaborated with H&M include Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney and Comme des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo.
Their launches have generated frenzied scenes as shoppers sought to buy chic designs at cut-rate prices, and some collections have sold out within minutes.
