My Life: My Dad put me on
My father was a prominent figure in the Canadian Music scene growing up and he’s responsible for my passion and love for music today. As a kid he would sneak my brother and I into every possible concert he could get us into and if he could not (because we were underage) he got us signatures of our favorite artist. Public Enemy, 3rd Bass, Maestro Fresh West, Young MC, Dj Jazzy Jeff and the fresh Prince, Kool Moe Dee, Ice Cube, Black Sheep, Salt and Pepper, Del and the Funky Homosapien, Dream Warriors and the list goes on. I remember when he showed me the cover of Ice T’s album, I fell in kiddy love with Darlene Ortiz. She was amazing and the picture was like nothing I’d seen before in my life. I remember when Ice T and his wife came to town for a concert in Montreal, I just had to go. My father told us, we were too young and Ice T was a very explicit lyricist so it would not be possible. He brought my brother and I to the venue a couple hours in advance so we could at least get to meet them. While we were walking in the venue, Darlene was walking in at the same time and She called out my Fathers name! I was like what Dad knows Darlene? I was stunned… I did not know my pops had it like that. He introduced us to her and she gave us kisses on the cheek and said we were so cute. I never saw Darlene again until ESKAY posted this picture on his site.(thanks ESKAY).
I still have Ice T’s and Darlene’s autograph label picture .
I wa a kid then but now…Darlene you could still get it!
