  • Music: Zemmy – “Brittle Pieces”

I was recently introduced to the music of Nigerian born and London bred songstress Zemmy. She left Nigeria at the age of ten to attend  an all girls boarding school in the United Kingdom. This is where she honed in on her craft and after quite a number of years decided to attempt to release music online.

Her stand out song “Brittle Pieces” is a solemn ballet about a girl who gets her heart broken, and even though the subject matter is a timeless tale Zemmy’s vocal control really comes to the forefront. One would think she was a trained professional or seasoned veteran, rather than a new comer to music.

The monkey wrench in Zemmy’s story is her connection with Kanye West. A month or so after her song “Brittle Pieces” was released on her Soundcloud she noticed a sudden surge in listens and checked to see if a major blog had picked it up. Instead she found her song had been reposted on Kanye’s official Souncloud and further more was the only song on his soundcloud.

Listen below and stay tuned for what the young soul singer has planned for the next few months.

Did You Know: Zemmy emailed one of SoundCloud’s founders to ensure that the soundcloud really belonged to Kanye.
