MTTV: New Era’s Authentic Vintage On Location Feat: Marcus Troy
Behind the Collection:
New Era has long been known as the official cap of Major League Baseball with the iconic 59FIFTY fitted cap leading the way. The brand however, was not started with sports in mind. Founded in 1920 by Ehrhardt Koch, New Era began as a producer of fashion caps, specializing in the Gatsby.
As a nod to its heritage in fashion, the brand offers New Era Originals, a line of non- licensed, New Era branded headwear as well as, EK, a line of fashion headwear named after its founder.
New Era Originals has the same creativity and authenticity you’ve come to expect from New Era. Infusing special fabrics and a variety of colors, this collection is a fresh take on your favorite styles. EK is authentic vintage silhouettes reinvented for today’s fashion trailblazer offering timeless style to complement any look.
These unisex collections have the ability to be styled in a variety of ways. Headwear can set the tone for any look. Everyday casual or more polished style, New Era gives people the ability to express their personal style and to create a new look, every day.
Authentic Vintage on Location:
To introduce the Fall/Winter ’12 Authentic Vintage Collection comprised of our EK and New Era Originals styles, New Era created a unique pictorial to show the versatility of these unisex lines. Photographer, blogger, and fashion aficionado, Nick Joseph of TheCombined.com, curated the shoot enlisting the help of fashion tastemakers and influencers. Joseph has been a long-time fan of the New Era brand- especially it’s more fashion driven offerings. Joseph called upon four people, with four individual styles, to model the product how they would wear it. No stylists, no agencies, no studio- just real inspiration captured on location.
A native of SoCal, Joseph picked some classic backdrops in Los Angeles to shoot. The 2-day project began at Baxter Finely, a retro-inspired barbershop located in the heart of West Hollywood. He felt nothing spoke more to the classic ‘gentlemen’s trend’ than a premium barbershop. Nick also scouted some great spots in the downtown LA amongst the scenic ‘Old Bank District’ including Grand Park and a graffiti wall, which made for ascetic backdrops for the unique collective of models to pose. As a nod to New Era’s deep roots in sports, the crew headed to Dodger Stadium to capture imagery before heading to the 6th Street Bridge and canal to catch the sunset light. Joseph had ideas for how to tell a new story for New Era and found authentic locations and real people to bring that vision to life.
Classic Styling:
New Era prides itself on being on authentic brand. To showcase the latest fashion offerings, New Era called upon leaders in the industry for their insight on what’s trending and to see how they’d incorporate the latest EK and New Era Originals product into their personal style.
Linda Nguyen is founder of Love+Made, a fashion forward lifestyle brand that also has a killer events and marketing division. Jeanine Pesce is a former editor of StyleSight.com the popular trend forecasting service. Pesce’s girl-next-door smile and relaxed look juxtaposed against the gritty art scene in downtown LA shows how the right cap can top off a casual outfit.
Marcus Troy is a multi-faceted creative who specializes in digital brand experiences through his blog Marcustroy.com. Behind- the –Scenes:
To assist with the photography of this shoot, Nick Joseph called upon his friend, photographer, Luis Ruano, also known for his work as the senior editor of Hypebeast.com. No stranger to the world of fashion and art, Joseph enlisted his help to capture the full story of this project, to ensure no angle was left un-shot and the full potential of each location and person was utilized. In addition to his work with Hypebeast, Ruano has an extensive portfolio of photography and brand consultation on his site luisruano.com. In conjunction with Joseph, the duo curated how each frame would be styled and positioned. He also followed the group’s every move to catch candid shots. His keen eye for photography helped to bring a different perspective to the final pictorial.
