Looks: Oliver Spencer Fall/Winter 2014 Collection @O_Spencer
Oliver Spencer was founded in 2002. The creator, Oli, wanted to create a collection that mirrored his own wardrobe, a bridge between popular streetwear and traditional tailoring. What resulted is wearable, interesting, elegant clothes that are brilliantly executed and designed.
The Specials’ drummer John Bradbury played a lived set as Oliver Spencer debuted their Fall/Winter 2014 collection at the Old Sorting Office on New Oxford St. as part of the London Collections: MEN.
The wardrobe is influenced by Purism, architecture & London’s ever-evolving subcultures. Further, inspiration was taken from Le Cobusier’s mechanical, modular designs and modern materials, the clothes featured geometric spaces flooded with color.
The fabrication of pieces have been reworked with new weaving techniques. There was a modern architectural take on a classic herringbone. The clean and sharp architectural lines of Unité d’Habitation influence traditional tailoring to create a modern fit for the season.
Performance fabrics reference Corbusier’s “machines for living,” and lightweight nylon has heavy influence. Geometric shapes and colour are introduced in a nod towards Tartan.
While charcoal, navy, and forest green anchor the colour palette which blends with caramel and rust tones were present throughout the collection.
Key pieces include the Shawl Collar Donegal Jacket, Lightweight Nylon Mac, Judo Pants, and the Caramel Epsom Coat that embody the brand’s approach to evolutionary design.
