  • Live From The Berry: The M.Troy Catalog

This cloudy Tuesday morning I decided to dress up with some garments I received the night earlier from a friend of mine who works in the garment industry.

I usually plan my outfits out in my head the night before; I first start with the shoes and work my way up. This morning I decided to put on a pair of Sebago Lighthouse boat shoe boots given to me by a one Ronnie Fieg a footwear aficionado in New York City. These Black and Silver full grain leather distressed boots are a perfect fit for this kind of weather Montreal weather. The dark tones are reminiscent of coal after it has combusted after a  nightlong bonfire.

I wanted to wear a pair of black jeans to complement the boots, the only pair of jeans that would be right for this outfit and rest perfectly inside the boots are my pair of super skinny Levis 510’s originals that I picked up at Style Exchange, a boutique in the downtown area of Montreal. Don’t be startled by the description of super skinny they have a bit of stretch in the denim, which keeps it comfortable and fitting. These jeans never fade and are as black as the night sky on a cold winter night.

My white undershirt by American Apparel sets the tone of the outfit, even though it is unseen. I always feel fresh and clean in a white under shirt, it is the only item that really describes my feelings. It makes me feel like Marlon Brando in “A Streetcar Named Desire”.

My layering piece of choice today is by the American heritage brand Pendfield, a moderately thick  white and black buffalo plaid shirt in a medium size. I like wearing shirts one size down from my usually size, it fits a lot more tailored which is more my styling these days. This trailwear buffalo plaid shirt is 100% cotton on the shell and the interior is 100% polyester that gives it a great feel and touch. The nylon ribbed interior collar is also a great added touch. This complements the jeans and the boots superbly! Each button, 12 to be exact are embossed twice with the Penfield logo, it has 2 breast pockets large enough to fit a small calculator by Texas instruments and your wallet if need be. The left breast pocket has a subtle leather embossed Penfield patch that symbolizes their mark of quality garments.

Before my outfit is completed I usually search around for the right timepiece. You can tell a lot about a man by the type of timepiece he decides to wear. Today I decided to go with the Nautica A3000  BFC Chrono Chronograph which has a brushed silver case, black dial with black resin strap and stainless steel hardware. I choose this watch to keep in line with my nautical theme.

The last piece is usually the tricky one! I never want to choose an outerwear piece that is overbearing and outshine my outfit unless it is the focal point of ensemble. I like an outerwear piece that complements my outfits seamlessly. The friend of mine that I spoke about earlier who works in the garment industry was very thoughtful in his selection of garments for this box of goodies he dropped off at my place of residence. One of the items was a three layer Penfield Raincoat featuring fully taped seams, removable hood, 2 angled hand pockets, Penfield side wall buttons, concealed button opening and contrast tricot lining. I have to admit I look very distinguished in this jacket.

Lastly, a cable knitted grey  Mountain toque by Penfield which is very similar to one worn by a Shawn Carter in  the “Anything” visual presentation, completes the outfit  perfectly.

Off I go to the office for a full day of meetings and product selection.

I hope you enjoyed The M.Troy Catalog, I think J.Peterman would be very proud of me…
