Live From The Berry: I Do This For The Belt, Man
As a kid I grew up watching wrestling and like most of you Hulk Hogan was my favorite wrestler. You knew when he got into the ring that he was there for his fans, Hulkmania and all the little Hulksters from around the world. He went hard on every opponent, obviously back then we had no idea that it was scripted and fake, we just admire his passion and his will. In retrospect, I’ve come to realize the reasons why I loved Hulk Hogan so much, he was a true champion and he never backed down or gave up. He wanted to be the best in the league and he fought with his heart in every match. I remember the epic fight between Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant, when Hulk tried to raise Andre over his head like he was famously know for…oh boy did he struggle you could see the drive, the passion, the strength, the hope all flowing trough his veins at that moment…it was very inspirational to see him as he lifted Andre up over his head and slammed him to the floor.
What inspired me to write this post was Kanye’s lyrics on the Lollipop remix with Lil Wayne, where he says “Imma rap like I got some type respect for myself/I dont do it for my health man/I do it for the belt/Man I do it to the death/Til the roof get melt/100 degrees, drop the roof so the coupe dont melt”
What an incredible verse! (my opinion) I like the fact that he’s challenging himself with some self-reflection, usually we have to be told by our parents about things like that…you know we’ve all heard that expression used on us by our parents: “Do it like you have some type of respect for yourself” Which ultimately means do it at your best. He does it because he wants to be the best at what he does! I think it’s great inspiration for all of us to grasp. When you do it, do it for the belt man! I do it for the belt everyday! I’m not doing this to be cool, or to get free product, I do this because I want to live off of this! I want my family to live off of me being a blogger; I want to be the best in this game! Everyday I work at mastering my craft so I can be the best at this, I take advice, I learn, I listen and I implement. To be able to live successfully off your passion must be an extraordinary feeling. I think artist and athletes are some of the few people who are able to live extremely well off of their passions. Whenever you step into the ring know that you are there to win the belt. The Belt can represent whatever you want it to be, but know that winning the belt means the ultimate success.
