Live From The Berry- 2 Cool For School
Throughout our lives most of us get the chance to cross paths with thousands of people before we pass on. If we’re lucky enough we even get the opportunity to build good relationships with some of these people.
The question some may ask is why do we cross paths with so many people? A book I read a couple months back called the Celestine Prophecy’s had great answers to that question that I would love to share wit you guys in another post. For now lets just say, you never know why you might cross paths with someone.
You ever applied for a job, but the person hiring was someone you used to bully in high school? I don’t think you got that job, uh? Has it ever happened that you laughed at someone’s plans or dreams to later find out it came to fruition? You ever dissed someone who wasn’t that good looking back in the day, but when you see them today they look incredible and you wish you had another shot? I think Method Man really expressed that feeling the best “Bitches used to diss me now they can’t forget me now”
What I am trying to say, is that you never know who will be what and what purpose or role a person might play in your life. The same thing is also true on the flip-side, a lot of people get a taste of success and then they feel that they are better than everyone else. They no longer return emails or phone calls, they treat you differently when you see them; they simply think that they are better than you. You can’t possibly think that success lasts forever? What happens when you’re no longer the head bouncer of that amazing club? What about when you no longer write for that magazine? What if you no longer managed that hot artist? What if your blog was no longer relevant? What would become of you if you had to go back to the real world? Do you think all the people you dissed on the way up would have pity for you?
The people that I admire and respect are the ones are able to keep a level head and stay humble on their climb up the ladder of success, no matter what industry they’re in.
I think it is best to remain humble because you never know what can happen. I think it is best to stay connected with the real world because you never who will become what! That same person you don’t make time for today could be the same person you may need to open a door for you later on.
Remember the movie Carlito’s Way? When Benny Blanco from the Bronx wanted some respect from Carlito Brigante but Carlito just thought Benny was a punk. Well that same punk ended up being Carlito’s downfall. All he wanted was some acknowledgment and respect.
Try and return people emails or tweets, try and show people the same respect you would want in return. I don’t think you should ever be “2 cool for school” If ever I become that guy, please remind me of this note.
Peace MT
