This phone looks pretty amazing! I should be getting my hands on one to play with and I will let you guys know if it lives up to the hype. Read the detailed press release.

The highly anticipated XPERIA X1 from Sony Ericsson, now available exclusively from Rogers Wireless, unites a range of multimedia and communication experiences in a way that can be personalized to reflect how consumers want to use their smartphone. The X1 retails for $249.99 on select three year terms with Rogers.

“Our vision for the X1 is to deliver a seamless blend of mobile web communication and multimedia entertainment that can be personalized to reflect user needs,” said Michelle Digulla, General Manager for Sony Ericsson Canada. “When you combine its innovative design, panel navigation and countless advanced features, it’s clear why this device sets the benchmark for both your personal and business life.”

The XPERIA X1’s unique panel user interface is at the heart of the device’s ability to create and adapt to consumers’ personal choices. The nine panels let consumers access all areas of their life with one touch and can be styled to suit their needs while switching between panels, enabling consumers to enjoy seamless access to the information and applications of their choice.

As Sony Ericsson’s first smartphone to launch in Canada, the XPERIA X1 brings together a large three-inch wide VGA display touch screen and a full QWERTY keyboard all wrapped into a sleek arc slider handset with metal finish.

“The X1 runs on the Rogers 3.5 Network, with speeds 3x faster than any other carrier in Canada, enabling audio and video streaming, high speed Internet surfing, multimedia messaging and email on the go with download speeds up to 7.2 Mbps,” says John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless. “In addition to delivering 3G mobile broadband speeds, the X1 supports Wi-Fi to meet the needs of consumers’ always-connected lifestyle.”

By incorporating the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system and Microsoft Mobile Office, the X1 provides a powerful mobile PC experience that frees consumers from their home and office.

“Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and a personalized panel touch interface, the XPERIA X1 is designed for consumers that want to stay connected on the go,” said Alec Taylor, Windows Mobile Lead, Consumer and Online, Microsoft Canada. “This is the ultimate smartphone that brings together efficiency, multimedia and style, all in one mobile device.”
