Sonos speaker owners who use their iPhones and iPads to access its wireless audio capabilities will be happy to know that the AirPlay 2 function for their devices is finally available.
AirPlay 2 allows iOS users to select the speakers they want to play music via its new multi-room audio support. Siri has also been better integrated to allow the digital assistant to assign which speakers will be utilized and more.
This update works seamlessly with newer Sonos speakers equipped with Alexa. Once the music is playing via AirPlay 2, you can ask Alexa to pause, lower or raise the volume, go to the next track, and ask what’s currently playing.
The new Sonos Beam, Sonos One, Playbase, and second-generation Play:5 speakers will be able to take advantage of AirPlay 2 right away. However, if you wish to group older speakers after using AirPlay 2, you would then have to do it manually through the Sonos controller app.
