  • Saeco Xelsis Super-Automatic Espresso at Café Troy

    Within the coffee world there are certain pretensions that gets often overlooked. Some of us are used to the quick over-the-counter coffee that is served routinely day after day. It is within this repetitiveness that the ritualistic nature of enjoying a good cup of coffee is lost.

    Let’s start where the beans get sourced. Fair Trade farms and their farmers harvest the coffee strategically, carefully, and deliberately. Their crop is maintained to make sure the yield each year is consistent. How is it then, that this continuity is lost when it gets into our cups?

    For decades, Saeco has treated the coffee bean with the utmost respect by building machines that properly extracts the flavours from them. With features like a ceramic grinder, whose durable construction maintains its consistency grind after grind, to the responsive touch screen, which provides access to the seemingly endless coffee customization options, and the eight personalized user profiles – their new Xelsis Super-Automatic Espresso machine represents the pinnacle of coffee making at home.

    The Xelsis’ finely-tuned mechanisms are encased within a striking stainless-steel frame and everything is seamlessly integrated. Docked on the left is Saeco’s patented AquaClean filter which ensures that water quality is top-notch for up to 5,000 cups of coffee, virtually eliminating the need to descale. To the right is the grounds drawer that compacts the used beans for a quick and easy disposal later. It is accompanied with a sleek milk carafe that makes use of Saeco’s Latte Perfetto technology, which is ready to produce barista quality milk foam on demand.

    The personalization feature of the Xelsis brings the ritual back to the coffee cup. With fifteen different types of coffee drinks at your disposal; you can change it up every day and choose from espresso, lattes, macchiatos, ristrettos, cortados, and more. Because you’ll definitely be serving guests, the Xelsis is capable of serving two of any beverages at a time. (yes, cappuccinos too!) all it requires is that the 2X option be selected from the screen.

    As we used the Xelsis day after day, we felt tapped into the ritual of coffee making. Depending on what we were in the mood for, we would browse through the menu, select our drink, tweak the strength, temperature, milk, and then brew. Bigger coffee drinks like café latte, café au lait, cappuccino, to simple brewed coffee are made with ease, just tweak them to your taste through the Coffee Equalizer system and store your creation in up to 8 profiles

    Once the drinks are done, cleaning is a breeze with the Hygie Steam cleaning program. Before stepping away from the machine, we would wipe it down, put away the milk and leave it ready for the next cup.
