On Saturday, August 26th, adidas, Pharrell Williams, Stan Smith and a host of adidas Tennis sponsored athletes—including Garbine Muguruza, Dominic Thiem, Alexander “Sascha” Zverev, Angelique Kerber and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga— kicked off thetournament on Saturday at the Frederick Johnson Community Court in Harlem, New York, announcing Quiet Please, a campaign that invites the local community to let their voices be heard by delivering personal messages that inspire change through love.

Saturday’s event was a preview to August 28th, where the Quiet Please series of activations across New York City was set to come to life. The campaign utilizes custom, tennis-tournament-style umpire chairs situated throughout the city, inviting all the opportunity to share and express themselves with love. If you happened to be in New York City last weekend, you may have spotted the chairs at Columbus Circle, The Apollo Theater, The New York Public Library, Herald Square, Flatiron, Union Square, Astor Place, Christopher Street at Gay Street, Petrosino Square, and Atlantic Terminal.

With this, the community and special guests of the brand, including Desiigner, Young M.A, Hannah Bronfman and Ally Love to name a few, encouraged everyone to believe in their voices and be loud in inspiring change through love. Also at Saturday’s launch, adidas and Pharrell Williams announced a partnership with HORIZONS, a non-profit organization, to establish a tennis scholarship for children. adidas and Pharrell Williams also continue to strengthen their mission and belief that sport has the power to change lives by making a donation to the NYC Parks Department for tennis court restoration.

At the heart of the campaign is this manifesto – shared by Pharrell Williams himself at last Saturday’s event:

“Every tennis match starts with the same two words: ‘Quiet Please’. But change can be noisy and our love can transform anything. Outside the court we will let our voices be heard as loud as we can. If you see the potential for good, speak up. Together, we can change the game for the better.”

Williams has also developed his first performance collection with adidas. This premium collection will be available at adidas retail locations, Billionaire Boys Club flagships, and online at adidas.com on August 31th.
