Smartwatches have mostly been geared towards more gentle uses and they haven’t been built to withstand harsh environments. Now that changes with Nixon’s latest offering called “The Mission”, which is the brand’s first smartwatch, as well as being the first that can be categorized as ultra-rugged. It features the latest technology from Google’s Android Wear smartwatch platform and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 system-on-chip (SoC). Which makes it responsive and capable of handling a number of functions ranging from the custon Mission app powered by Surfline and Snocoutry, to activity tracking, along with several Google functions.
This is all encased into a custom moulded, shockproof and stainless steel case with an ultra-durable Corning Gorilla Glass crystal and a 316L grade stainless steel bezel. Moreover, its water-resistant up to 10-ATM (100 meters) and the screen features wet-finger technology that allows you to use the device even when it’s soaked. To make the Mission more unique, the smartwatch can be customized from a selection from of bezels, cases, bands, along with case back inscriptions.
We find that the Mission is truly meant for the adventurer at heart. It’s rugged characteristics make it too bulky of a device to wear on your wrist everyday, say to the office or an evening out. Nonetheless, we can appreciate its appeal and its definitely something we want out in the wilderness.
The Mission is available now in multiple colours at select retailers. You can also customize the device on Nixon.
