Live From The Berry -Marcus Troy’s “Hookup” Etiquette
January 7th, 20091. Very few people have the hookup or connections so when they get the hookup or connection they want to hold on to it. Don’t ask someone for his or her hookup!Remember in the movie “Blow” when George’s friend Diego asked him for his connects and then Diego screws George over with his own connects? That’s why most people never give up their connections.
2. If your friend gets free soap bars at the local Bodega, don’t ask him if he can hook you up with his connection. Why would his connection give you free soap bars? There is always a reason to why people get hooked up.
3. Only ask people for the hookup,if they are the main hookup. There isn’t anything more frustrating than when someone asks you: “hey you think you can get me some Adidas shoes in girl sizes from your Adidas connect?” Unless your friend is the actual Adidas representative, don’t ask.
4. Now let say your friend gets hooked up with free DVD’s, I think it’s ok to ask your friend if they can share some of their DVD’s with you. That’s cool because if he or she is a generous person, I’m sure they would not have any issues sharing with you. I think it’s ok to ask your friends to share his or her wealth in moderation.
5. Never be envious or jealous of someone else’s hookup, you never really know what he or she did to get it. It might have been a lot of hard work or it might be something that you would never be willing to do .
6. Getting hooked up is really about who knows you and not who you know. You ever go to a club with some friends and one of them says don’t worry I know the owner or the bouncer? But when you get there the owner or the bouncer has no clue who he is. If the bouncer or the owner would have known your friend instead of him knowing them, I’m sure the outcome would have been different.
7. The hook up is very relative. Asking someone to get you hooked up for free entry into a club or hook you up with a job at his work is a lot different then asking someone to get you hooked up with a free Louis Vuitton belt because they know the marketing manager at LV.
8. Some hookups don’t cost the “hooker upper” a thing for example getting someone into the movie theaters for free is a hook up but does not cost anything. The only cost associated with that hookup is the potential revenue if the person actually paid. Hooking someone up with product is a lot different because there is always a cost associated with product. Always be mindful of what the hookup cost.
9. A hookup can quickly turn into a favor when you start asking your connect to hook you up for other people. Most who ask to be hooked by your connection sometimes don’t realize that you will be the one having to do a favor for your connect. Friends and family always feel that their friend’s connections could easily hook them up. I believe that the higher you make it in life your hookups become bigger and you could demand a lot more. I’m sure Oprah could get a hook up for her and her 10 friends no problem.
10. Always appreciate when you get hooked up no matter what it is, the hook up never last forever. One day when you become the person, who can grant the hookup, please do! Its great Karma!
Thanks to everyone who has ever hooked me up!
Just my thoughts…
MT

You dug in the crates w/ this one.
Who pissed you off, rather than that were did your inspiration come form to write/jot down such a great post (Agree w/Lissa)?
I check this blog daily.
Jayson » Man, my brain runs with these kind of thoughts all day long and seldom do I get a chance to put it on paper or on this blog. The new year will be the year I always say the things that are on my mind. Thanks for the readership and the support.
djlissamonet » Thank you Lissa! I do this for ya’ll
Yo MT can you hook a brother up!?? lol
On a real how you feel about a dude hooking another dude up with a girl or vice versa, does that follow what your saying? just food for thoughts!

Teddy » That’s a great question! If you hook someone up with someone else I guess everything I said gets canceled. A guy once hooked me up with a girl and then he wanted her after… If you hook someone up consider it a done deal you can’t want it back especially if its a girl!
I totally agree, my hook-up is not your hook-up. this is excellent.
the first rule of cool guy club is don’t talk about cool guy club
hey marcus troy, i need a new ecko jacket. hook it up, guy!
You took the words out of my mouth. Leslie and I were having that convo over the holidays. I am going to RT this post and write one so my friends get that shit.
Ace Six » Ha Ha that was a good one! *Kanye Voice*
That sounds chill.
Well, this isn’t a hook up question more of a purchase. Are you still selling the Spike Lee limited edition sweaters produced my Ecko?
I don’t need/require a hook-up only a bill of sale.
Loves the ‘Hook-up’ etiquette! I may link this to my site tomorrow. FABjob!
Words to live by.
great rules. thanks for that…
now hook me up with free stuff!
Great read my man. If anyone can write about this, it’s most definitely you. These are words to live by if you expect any type of hook-up.
