My Life: Drake-Montreal
July 19th, 2010P.Reign
Last night Drake & Friends performed at Metropolis in Montreal. The show had been sold out for months and everyone was scrambling to get tickets for this anticipated show.
The opening act for Drake was his homie P.Reing from Toronto. I’ve been to a lot of shows in my life and I’ve never seen an virtually unknown opening act get so much love. I was really impressed with P.Reign’s stage presence and performance and how he engaged the crowd. He dropped a little unknown fact about himself that he was born in Montreal in the notorious Little Burgundy neighborhood then he shouted out all the other “hoods” and the crowd when nuts.
Opening acts usually come off like amateurs and have really bad sounding equipments or mics. P.Reing handled this like a pro and made it feel like he had been doing this for a very long time or has been paying attention to the professionals. I’m feeling his song “In my Hood” and the crowd was also very receptive. He performed what think is a new song about White Leather and new rims and I have to say it was also dope!
Props to P.Reign you now have my attention.
Drake killed Montreal! The crowd went crazy for every song and sang along for every song. I was so surprise to see lips moving during his “Aston Martin Music” verse over a “Find Your Love” instrumental. His stage performance his getting so much better and he is a lot more captivating to the crowd. My lady friend was anxious to see if this would be a better performance than his BET appearance, and guess what? He really killed it. Drake really professed his love for Montreal and the crowd reciprocated.
Drake even sang a few songs and you can really tell that his vocal coach has been working him really hard. The crowd seemed really impressed with his singing, for a few minutes you would have believed you were at a bonafied R&B show. The show had 1 or 2 hiccups with timing being off and whatnot but I left the venue feeling really proud of Drake! You can tell he wants this thing forever.
It was cool to see 40 and Cj behind the soundboard man making sure everything looked right, sounded right and was on point. These guys want to be the best in the game and it shows.
Drake is in town for a few days so don’t be surprised if you see him around the city!
@marcustroy Just read your review of last night, well said.
@marcustroy I hope you enjoyed yourself yesterday.

Nice to see him back in his born-town!
Sorry MT, but yet again, I think people are giving Drizzy another free pass. The show was good, but not great.
The delay between songs needs to be tightened up and he doesn’t need to talk bewtween EVERY song.
Yes, his stage presence is getting better with every show and the crowd does love him; but there are a few things that just need to be tweeked and he will have a solid show/tour..
The pointing out people in the crowd and describing them is an obvious copy of the Jay-Z Blueprint concert; but hey.. It works..
I agree, his vocal chops are on point, but nobody ever really questioned that. And being backed by a live band is always a plus in my books.
I have to admit, I was expecting a better wardrobe than a baggy black tee & cargo pants; but I won’t deduct any points from the score card for that.
Like his album, the show is a good POP show. But don’t call him the savior of music just yet… But this is just my opinion, and the other 2299 people at the venue would probably disagree with me.. What do I know…
It was a nice show
