The Marcus Troy Experience

I have so many friends that I consider Mavericks and it is important for you to know that they all started off with dreams of being more than what they were known for. They challenged the norm and decided to break through the ceiling to reach their goals. I’m not sure if they were conscious of it, but something kept them up at night. These Mavericks had a mission to get on the right path and make magic happen.

I’ve used twitter and my digital space marcustroy.com to explore the meaning of being a leader and following your path to success. I think success is measured by reaching your goals and should not to be confused with others perception of your success. I feel a lot of people judge success on what you have and have accomplished. If the Mavericks I know spent their time worrying about other people’s vision for them, I don’t think they would be where they are today.

What I love about Mavericks is that they are on a continuous journey to find themselves and achieve their own definition of success. Some of them may already be successful or are on their path to becoming successful, but continue to do what they love. They are more than what they are known for because they think beyond what they are known for, envisioning what they will become.

Many nights I’ve spent pondering how we’d deliver this story and mircrosite. I went through hundreds of pictures, videos and files and read countless stories. My desktop is a warzone, because I want to show you products, profile individuals and bring you all on this journey with me. I want to really engage you and hear your stories, trial and tribulations. I want to inspire you to share your stories with the world, by sharing those of Nike’s Mavericks. You might not be where you want to be today, but in your heart and mind you are fighting to get to that place and I want the world to know about it.

I believe your stories will inspire future Mavericks to see themselves as more than they’re known for. It happened to me, and it can happen to them, to you. There are so many people that I respect and admire who’ve inspired me through their plight, ambitions, successes and failures. They’ve left a mark on me. I now walk around striving to become more than I “can” be. I consider these people Mavericks, but I also believe there is a Maverick spirit in all of us.

There are a few common threads with the people that I read about and spoke with. They all failed numerous times but continued to fight for what they believed in. They all had a defining moment in their lives when they realized exactly what they wanted to become or do. They were much more that the sport that they played, the job that they had or even their career choice. They were Mavericks.

While building this project, I had the opportunity to interview two incredible and groundbreaking athletes: PK Subban & Alex Bilodeau. Their personal stories, defining moment, trials and tribulations inspired me even more. I digested and learned so much that I created this section “The Marcus Troy Experience” so you can get a glimpse of my inspiration, process and thoughts on this amazing project. I am hoping that going through these images and visuals gives you a taste of what went through my head to develop this site.

Now for the exciting part, learning about you all! This has to be one of my favorite Nike Sportswear campaigns to date for that reason. Besides the amazing products like the Destroyer Jackets and the Lunarwood, it really speaks to my sensibilities and uncovers a lot of the philosophies I try to explore with you guys on my digital space. The difference is, it really speaks to the individual and pushes us to discover a bit more about ourselves as future Mavericks.

Are you a Maverick?
