Club Monaco is one of my favorite places to shop in Montreal & Toronto.  I always find myself shopping at Club Monaco at least 4 times a season right before Tradeshows when I need to pick up a few key items.

Their aesthetic is always clean, strong, fashionably on point and reasonably priced. I love their interpretation of classic pieces like the trench coat or button up shirt. This weekend in Toronto they opened the doors to the newly renovated Yorkville flagship store. They’ve transformed the bottom floor as a 1-stop men’s shop with great products, great merchandising and 3^rd party brands such as Trickers’s, Tanner Goods and other made in America products. The highlight of the men’s shop was the launch of the Made in the USA collection curated by Michael Williams of A continuous Lean.

The new collection looks great and the shop looks fantastic.

Club Monaco, the lifestyle destination brand offering affordable luxuries with a modern sensibility while mixing fashion must haves with timeless classics, partners with Michael Williams of the prominent men’s blog A Continuous Lean to best serve male customers by launching an exclusive limited edition “Made in the USA” men’s collection, offering an assortment of suiting, shirts, and ties all sourced, designed, washed and fit in the United States, as well as a collection of diverse third party brands in a selectively merchandised men’s concept shop at the retailer’s 5th Avenue (Manhattan) and Bloor Street (Toronto) locations. The two shops will be men’s-only concept stores, bringing new depth to the men’s offerings.

The “Made in the USA” collection offers a range of men’s ready to wear, with each piece cautiously handmade to reflect a distinctly American feel while preserving Club Monaco’s design aesthetic. Shirts were made in Ashland, Pennsylvania; ties in New York, New York; and suiting in Westminster, Maryland. Jackets and blazers will be offered in an assortment of navy, charcoal, olive and black from $235 – $650, matching suiting trousers for $245, shirts in various patterns and colors for $139.50, and ties in silk, chambray, cashmere and wool for $89.50. The collection will be carried at the 157 Bloor Street West, Canada and 160 5^th Avenue, New York locations.

“More than anything, ‘Made in the USA’ is about preserving these people that have practiced their craft for a long time,” says Williams. “We’re giving guys the option to say, ‘I want to buy something that’s going to last a long time.’ And that’s what we’ve done with this Made in the USA collection.”

“When there’s more responsibility felt by the individual really making the clothes, it’s going to reflect in the quality of the product,” says Aaron Levine, VP of Men’s Design at Club Monaco.

“Building off the success of past third party collaborations such as Clarks, Timex, Ray-Ban and Levis vintage, we are thrilled to partner with A Continuous Lean. We hope to convey our guy’s lifestyle – his favorite things within the ultimate “closet,” says John Mehas, President and CEO of Club Monaco.

A Continuous Lean has used its knowledge of the market to team with Club Monaco to build a special men’s shop at the Club Monaco store on 5th Avenue and will look to do the same for the reopening of the Club Monaco Bloor Street store in Toronto (Club Monaco’s hometown). A Continuous Lean will bring a unique, stylish and advanced offering to the Club Monaco men’s shop, having worked to source and develop a capsule collection of made in the USA suits, shirts and ties. Club Monaco and A Continuous Lean has also partnered with Ben Clymer of Hodinkee on a special offering of vintage military watches that will only be available at the new 5th Avenue men’s shop. Additionally, the A Continuous Lean and Club Monaco collaboration will bring Tanner Goods, Cunningham Classics, Archival Clothing, London Undercover, Goruck, Ernest Alexander, American Optical, Wolverine and Terrapin Printers & Engravers to the select Club Monaco locations

A new shop pop up in Montreal last week and I had a chance to visit it today and it is pretty dope! Le Magasin General is french for General Store and carries some of your favorite brands. The shop is owned and operated by twin Duo Oli & Mer of Bruxe Design, the shop serves as their showroom, workshop and office.

They’ve reused and all the original elements of the existing space and decorated the space with 100 year old wood and materials from a barn. The store has been restored to the original walls and floor.

Very exciting to have another fresh shop in Montreal.

When we launched Bruxe Design 4 years ago we started to discuss the idea of opening a general store to house our brand. Not your typical general store, but one which focuses on design and fashion with a curated mix of clothing, fashion accessories, jewelry, books and design objects for home, office and travel. The great folks of Sir & Madame Chicago celebrated their 1 year anniversary last week. I had an opportunity to check out the shop when I was in town. The shop feels friendly and home-like which is always a great feeling. Thanks to the SIR & MADAME family for the love and hospitality. Our Story

In 2005, Adam Beltzman ditched his day job as a lawyer, rolled up his sleeves and set out to create the store he felt was missing in Chicago. He gave some serious thought about what he would want in a men’s shop and at long last came up with a great idea.  He decided to bring back the haberdashery – the traditional men’s store of yesteryear. A local, one-stop shop tailored for men and only men. A store where gentlemen received a high level of service, were treated with respect and were made to feel comfortable while shopping for their wardrobe. A shop where men would hang out to talk about events of the day and could take care of their clothing needs for both work and leisure.  So, he put a modern spin on that old school store and haberdash was born in Chicago’s historic Old Town neighborhood.

In 2009, Adam partnered with industry veteran Jerry Kamhi to expand the concept and create a new model in menswear.

Montreal, Spring 2011- The WANT Apothecary was conceived as a way to recapture the essence of the intimate, trusted and neighbourly retail experience of a bygone era.

Loosely inspired by the atmosphere of a 19th-century pharmacy, this concept shop presents a unique opportunity for customers to discover a trusted resource for their style and beauty needs.

The shop is carefully curated by Byron and Dexter Peart, designers of the leather-goods brand WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie. Appropriately, the shop embraces the same design ethos as the celebrated accessories brand: timelessness, quality and a modern interpretation of the past.

Situated on the western slopes of Mont Royal, The WANT Apothecary is nestled among boutiques, fine grocers, florists and cafés on charming Sherbrooke Street West. The Peart twins were drawn to this location by the unique heritage of Montreal’s Westmount residential neighbourhood. This multicultural community shares an ever-present enthusiasm for the rich heritage and tradition espoused by WANT.

The WANT Apothecary will stock a selection of narrowly distributed yet highly desired international fashion brands, including Acne, Nudie Jeans, Arc’teryx Veilance, Maison Kitsuné and, naturally, WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie. A carefully edited array of beauty and body-care products including Aesop and Astier de Villatte will round out this selective offering.

Created together with interior designer Maria Rosa di Ioia, the shop features aged herringbone floors, custom-designed dark oak tables and Roll & Hill smoked bulb chandeliers. Natural and classic materials such as American walnut, Bianco Carrara marble and brushed copper lend a sense of tradition and warmth to the environment.

Atlanta is home to a really dope shop and brand that I’ve profiled before, Stivers Row. They carry mostly their brand and some other great accessories like DITA , Jean Shop and Falling Whistles. Will runs the shop and he treated us like family! I felt like staying there all day and just drink Coronas. As you can see we were all really comfortable chilling.

If I were to describe the vibe of the shop I would say that it embodies a great time capsule of heritage. You can spend time dissecting all the paraphernalia and trinkets. This is really how I would want my living room to look like.

Last week when I was in New York City I visited a new denim shop that was probably the best denim store I’ve seen in my life. I want you to think Bespoke Denim all made in house by qualified seamstresses.

This shop is a must see in New York city.

Denim designer/entrepreneur Scott Morrison announces the launch of his new denim brand line, 3×1.  The name is derived from denim’s standard weaving construction, the 3×1 RHT (Right Hand Twill).  The ‘3 by 1’ in (3×1) also represents Morrison’s third concept/founding of a jeans brand. His first company, Paper Denim & Cloth, launched in 1999 and proved to be at the forefront of the premium denim market, while his second denim brand, Earnest Sewn, launched in 2004, and was one of the first to focus exclusively on American heritage products and one of the pioneers of incorporating 3rd party brands and strategic collaborations into his retail concept.

Following the success of his first two brands, Morrison sought to create something that could not be replicated, and in the process, capture the uniqueness of New York City, the place he calls home.   3×1 (Made Here) is inspired not only by the city, but also by the people, the heightened pace, the international culture and its manufacturing and apparel legacy, each completely unique to NYC.    3×1’s offering of men’s and women’s denim products are each in of themselves limited-edition styles, as the in-house production is limited to between 8-24 pieces of any given style, and less than 25 pieces are made per day.  A bespoke denim service is also offered, allowing patrons to work individually with Morrison and his pattern-maker to create his or her own pair of jeans from start to finish. The fabric selection offered to customers consists of more than 60 unique selvedge denims from around the world (primarily for men), and as many as 50 varieties of denims and twills specific to women.

Based in Manhattan’s SOHO District, the ‘3×1 Made Here’ brand experience is part retail store and part gallery space, with a complete jean manufacturing facility at its center.  Shoppers can watch jeans being constructed from start to finish behind three glass-walled rooms within the retail store.  Sewers, cutters, patternmakers, and designers are all completely immersed in their process, and customers are offered a one of a kind perspective and experience into how jeans are designed, developed and produced.  Never before has there been a store concept that marries the production process with the retail environment, and by design, Morrison has achieved a level of transparency that is the first of it’s kind, anywhere in the world.

“People love to learn how things are made, at least I always have, and there’s something magical about seeing the process itself.  Perhaps it’s a sign of the times, but the thought that seems most relevant to me today is one of transparency, value, and uniqueness.”  To facilitate his unique vision, 3×1 incorporates each of the processes of design, patternmaking and sewing quite literally into their modern gallery/retail/work space and the result is like nothing you’ve ever seen.   “It’s a bit like looking into, and working in, Santa’s workshop” says Morrison.

‘3×1 Made Here’ is located at 15 Mercer Street, on the same block as other fashion notables such as Alexander Wang and around the corner from Opening Ceremony.  The 4,000 square foot retail space is open to the public on Wednesday – Sunday (11am – 7pm), while bespoke appointments are typically reserved for Monday and Tuesday.   In addition to 3×1’s line of men’s and women’s denim, bespoke jeans, and fashion accessories, the store will also offer a few select brands, products, and unique items that share the brand’s ideology pertaining to quality, attention to detail, and exclusivity.
