Scandinavian fashion label, ACNE Studios, has a longstanding love for denim. In fact, when founder Jonny Johansson launched the brand twenty years ago; denim was at the forefront of its offerings. In an interview with GQ, the designer noted how denim had become quite a lazy subject, and how its overall design has gone unchanged for quite some time. To him the word “authentic” and “selvedge” was overused by other brands to describe their denim newest collections, even though the blueprint used to craft the jeans is the same as everything else in the market.

For 2017, Johansson wanted to change the format with ACNE’s latest denim collection. He tells GQ:

“I wanted to find new details that worked for us, like overlocking the seams to create a white edge, or changing the number of belt loops for a better fit and hold — two at the front, five at the back.”  – Johansson in GQ.

The range was inspired by the elements of his native country, Sweden. The first is called LAND, which consists of loose fitting jeans, the second is RIVER, which is a selection of cropped and tapered jeans, and lastly NORTH, which is a series of slim-fitting jeans. Every piece features a 5-pocket construction with refined details including hidden rivets, a lined back yoke and seven belt loops.
